Why Wearing High-Quality Gym Clothes Matters

The quality of your gym clothes matters. Here’s why.
Craig Middleton
Exercise comes in many forms from taking a jog in your local park to lifting free weights in the gym. You might have a favorite kickboxing class or enjoy some one-on-one time with a personal trainer. When it comes time to work out, what do you put on? Many people go for an old cotton tee and a beat-up pair of shorts.
After all, you’re just going to get sweaty. You’ve probably seen clothing geared especially toward working out and passed right by it thinking that it was completely unnecessary. Why spend the money when you have old clothes at home? The quality of your gym clothes matters and we will elaborate on why.

More Freedom of Movement

Chances are that the old clothing you find to wear to the gym doesn’t fit very well. Or, perhaps you found some gym clothing on sale for a great price and bought it even though it doesn’t fit perfectly. When shopping for workout clothes for men or women, look for clothes that are made from quality materials and that fit your body properly.
These features are incredibly important because properly fitted clothes provide you more freedom of movement, which is essential for performing exercises properly and safely.

Improve Your Performance

Wearing heavy materials can weigh you down. When you’re weighed down, you can’t move as you should. Your movements are restricted. The wrong materials (or poor-quality material) can slow you down, preventing you from performing at your best.
When choosing workout clothes, select what to wear based on the type of exercise you plan doing. The right clothes, made from the right materials, can help to greatly improve your performance.

Greater Comfort

Sweat is an inevitable part of working out. Certain materials can hold onto moisture, making you feel very damp and uncomfortable with every move you make. Suddenly your anticipated workout becomes miserable and you can’t wait for it to be over. Poor quality materials can also cause skin irritation, which can distract you from what you’re doing.
You want to choose clothing that breathes. Materials that wick away moisture allow you to remain dry even through intense workouts, enabling you to stay comfortable from the moment you walk in until the moment you leave. Wearing high-quality materials also prevents rashes. You can remain focused on your workout rather than how uncomfortable you feel.

Stay Safe

High-quality gym clothes can protect you from injuries. Gloves can prevent calluses on your hands while the right socks can keep your feet safe from blisters. The right shoes can help you to avoid cramps and shin splints. A hat can protect you from the sun if you’re working out outdoors.
Some clothes can keep you warm in the winter and some that can keep you cool and dry in the summer. Staying safe is essential for your health. Injury prevention also ensures that you can continue to do your regular workouts without unwanted interruptions.

Gain Confidence

What you wear can have a major impact on your confidence and how you feel during your workout. You might not realize it but wearing a baggy cotton shirt and old shorts can make you feel self-conscious. When you don’t feel your best, you can't perform at your best.
Wearing high-quality, properly fitted gym clothes can make a huge difference. On the other hand, when you like what you wear (and you feel good in what you wear) you receive a boost in confidence. When you feel more confident, you perform better. Better performance in the gym or on the trails means that you can reap more benefits from your workout.
While it might seem more practical to wear some old clothes that you have buried at the bottom of your dresser, chances are that the clothes you find aren’t suited for exercise and gym activities. Wearing the right, high-quality clothing is essential for helping you get the most out of your workout.
